Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions with Dentist in Maple

Listed below are some of the commonly asked questions by our patients. (click question to see the answer):

Q: Are you accepting new patients?

A: Dr. Daniel Sun at his team at Maple Dentistry are always welcoming new patients.

Q: What is Cerec?

A: Cerec, an acronym for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic, is essentially a CAD/CAM machine that produces crowns (caps), veneers, inlays and onlays right in the dentist’s office.

The advantage of this machine to our patients is that we are now able to complete these different types of restorations in just one appointment. In the past, a patient would require two or even three appointments over a period of one or two weeks to achieve a comparable result.

Another great advantage of the Cerec system is that the restoration is created based upon a digital picture taken of the tooth in question. No more messy, uncomfortable and awful tasting impression materials.

Ask Dr. Daniel Sun your Maple dentist about Cerec procedures.

Q: How does Invisalign work?

A: Upon an initial consultation, we decide if Invisalign is right for you. We then formulate a treatment plan, make an impression of your teeth and submit it to Invasilign. Using the latest 3-D computer technology, Invisalign translates our instructions into a series of medical grade plastic aligners. Each one of these plastic aligners is precisely calibrated and manufactured to fit snuggly over teeth and gently move them through every stage of your treatment plan.

Dr. Daniel Sun is a certified Invisalign provider.

Q: What are Dental Implants and what does the procedure involve?

A: Dental Implants are part of a tooth replacement treatment. They are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. These implants are metal posts or frames, usually made of titanium, that are surgically placed under your gums. They then fuse to the bone of your jaw and act as roots. Replacement teeth, called crowns and made of porcelain, are then attached to the implant They will fit securely to your gums because they are held in place by bone, allowing them to look and function just like natural teeth.

Ask Dr. Daniel Sun if dental implants are right for you.

Q: When should I bring my child in for their first visit?

A: Recent studies have shown that by the age of three, a child is already at risk of having cavities which can be caused by something as innocent as putting a baby to sleep with a bottle of juice or milk. Along with taking our first look at your child’s oral condition, this first appointment is also largely focused on the parents and helping them to establish a good oral hygiene program and diet for the child. We believe that a child should have his or her first dental visit by the age of 3.

Q: What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

A: More and more people today are booking appointments with our dental office, not because they are having dental problems, but because they want to smile more confidently. In many cases, these smiles begin with teeth that are crooked, stained, chipped or missing all together. From simple teeth whitening to full smile reconstruction, the end result in most cases is a healthy, attractive looking smile that provides a greater sense of self-confidence and enjoyment of life.

Q: Is Sedation Dentistry a good choice for me?

A: You may be a candidate for sedation dentistry if you have:
  • intense fear of dental visits
  • a bad dental experience in the past
  • sensitive teeth
  • fear of needles
  • extreme dislike of the smells and tastes associated with dental procedures
  • strong gag reflex or inability to keep mouth open during treatment
  • difficulty with traditional “numbing” i.e. the numbing does not take
